Lothian Pension Fund continues to invest over £160m in companies arming Israel, as it continues its genocidal onslaught in Gaza. Over 38,000 people have been killed in Gaza, with the World Health Organisation estimating a further 160,000 deaths in the next year due to famine and lack of sanitation.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that Israel may be committing genocide in Gaza. Last week, the ICJ ruled that Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal.
Workers in the UK Government’s Department of Business and Trade have raised the alarm that they fear their department might be breaching international law. Their union, PCS, is seeking legal advice on this and has noted the potential for its members to take strike action over arms sales to Israel.
Yet still our government continues to grant arms licences to Israel. And for Edinburgh Council workers, our pensions continue to fund the companies supplying Israel with arms, equipment and infrastructure. This is why we say LPF it’s time to divest from companies complicit in genocide in Gaza.
