International Workers Memorial Day 2024

On Sunday 28 April 2024 at 12.30pm at the Workers’ Memorial Tree in Princes Street Gardens West, join us in the annual gathering for International Workers Memorial Day as we remember those who have died at work in Scotland and everywhere and to pledge to make a safer world.

Please come and speak for your family, your union, your organisation. Lay a wreath or flowers.

Speakers will include Scott MacRory (FBU) and Joanna Cherry MP.

The theme this year is the impact of climate change on occupational safety and health.

May Day 2024

Unite members march together on 5 May

May Day is international workers day. We are calling on all members to join us as we march for May Day on Sunday 5 May 2024—comment below or contact a branch official to let us know you’ll be part of the Unite block.

Assembling at Johnstone Terrace at 11:30am to march at 12pm, arriving at the Pleasance for the rally.

Pay claim 2024

Unions call for a rise of £1.60 per hour or 7%—whichever is highest

On 25 January, we submitted our pay claim to COSLA for this year’s Scottish local government pay deal.

We are calling for a one-year deal with

  • a rise of £1.60 per hour or 7%, whichever is greater
  • a call for early negotiations to ensure the pay deal is implemented by 1 April

The Council are only budgeting for a 3% pay rise, but they are already doubting that this is enough—see 4.11 in the budget report to the Finance and Resources Committee.
